In this tutorial, we will describe the steps to install Python and PyCharm on Windows.
Installing Python
Python is an interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language. Created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991. Python’s design philosophy emphasizes code readability with its notable use of significant whitespace. We can use Python for developing desktop GUI applications, websites and web applications.
Step 1. First, let us download Python from the official website of Python. Go to http://www.python.org/downloads/ and click on download.
And select the required version.
Step 2. Now, let us go to download location and run the setup file to start the installation of Python. Next, we will check the ‘Add Python to Path’ and click on Install Now to proceed. (Change the installation path if required).
Step 3. Now, the installation is started and you can see the setup progress bar below.
Step 4. The next screen shows installation successful screen, we will click on close to complete the installation.
Step 5. Next, we have the most important step to verify the installation with below command.
python --version
Installing PyCharm
Besides Python, we need PyCharm which is very useful to start with Python programming. PyCharm is an integrated development environment used in computer programming, specifically for the Python language. It is developed by the Czech company JetBrains.
Step 1. To download PyCharm visit https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download/ and click the “Download” link under the Community Section.
Step 2. Now, we will go to download location and run the setup file to start the installation. Click Next to proceed.
Step 3. Next, we can change the destination path if required and click on Next.
Step 4. In the next screen, check all radio buttons as shown below and click Next to proceed.
Step 5. Choose the start menu folder. Keep the default ‘JetBrains’ as shown below and click on Install to proceed.
Step 6. The installation will start as shown below.
Step 7. Check reboot (the system will be rebooted to make the necessary changes) button and click on finish to complete the installation.
